Regarding the Aug. 3 article "Sub developed radioactive leak in Sasebo": Who are the U.S. Navy officials to say (the "trace amounts" of radioactivity that leaked into the water during a port call in March) will have "no effects on the environment and human bodies"? How about the fish that the Japanese people might eat that have been exposed to this micro-curie amount?

The fact that it has entered the water constitutes an effect nonetheless. Are the navy officials sure it will not be an adverse one? Japanese people, who apparently have no choice but to live with a nuclear aircraft carrier based in their country (Yokosuka) starting at the end of September, have a right to know immediately when radiation has leaked, even in amounts measured in micro-curies.
