MADRAS, India — The series of bomb explosions last week in Bangalore and Ahmedabad that killed and wounded scores of people shook the confidence of the nation, particularly after a plot to attack an important and crowded flyover in Madras was uncovered.
Bangalore and Madras, in southern India, are prosperous hubs for information technology. Ahmedabad, in western India, is a renowned trading and business center. More than causing panic and extreme fright, the terrorists obviously planned to cripple the country economically.
The explosions last week were set off in states ruled by the Hindu nationalist party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Both Bangalore and Ahmedabad are in the states of Karnataka and Gujarat, respectively. Less than two months ago, serials blasts shattered Jaipur in Rajasthan, another BJP-ruled state.
