Regarding John Spiri's June 17 Zeit Gist article, "(Japanese) Lawmaker takes 9/11 doubts global": The plane (Flight 767) did not "vaporize" as some say. The plane broke into thousands of small and large pieces and were clearly visible to all of us there that day. They were collected piece by piece in sight of the public and removed by the FBI to a warehouse several blocks from the Pentagon, where they stayed for over 18 months.

Large pieces, including the entire engine assembly and tires/landing gear, were collected intact and seen by all. The U.S. attorney who would lead any criminal prosecution has/had the final say on the disposition of the parts as they were potential evidence.

Once the parts were determined to be clean of any explosive residue (eliminating the bomb on board theory), they were released back to the Federal Aviation Administration and the plane's parent company. Requests to examine photos should be directed to the U.S. Department of Justice, the FAA and the plane's parent holding company. Literally hundreds of people saw the debris before it was removed, and photos were circulated in the local media showing both large plane parts and the fire still burning in the background.
