In reference to the May 22 article "Nanjing victim's libeler loses appeal": I am pleased that the Tokyo High Court upheld a lower court ruling against Shudo Higashinakano's book "The Nanking Massacre: Fact Versus Fiction."
There is more than enough corroborative evidence to prove that atrocities did take place in Nanjing, and for some people to continue to try to suggest otherwise is just plain silly.
If I wrote a book called "Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Fact Versus Fiction -- a Historian's Quest for Truth" suggesting that atomic bombs were not dropped on those cities and that people did not die and suffer terribly, there would be a justifiable outcry. Japan, like all countries, needs to deal with its history as truthfully as possible.
