Regarding the April 30 article "U.S. sailors to undergo mental check": The survey seems like a great idea and should have been part of our overseas survey. But people are going to lie about things and lie about stuff they did.

What should be done is a thorough background check before even being seen by an overseas physical doctor. I have been stationed in Yokosuka for four years. And it is sick to see what kind of people check in and how stupid they are.

I love my community and it is peaceful. But people that come in nowadays make it hard to like Japan or enjoy the beauty of Japan. There are a lot of things that need to be looked at when a new aircraft carrier arrives.

The first thing is to get new people out of Japan who do not wish to serve in this area. In trying to fill a quota to meet its needs in this area, the U.S. Navy overlooks overseas screening, appearing as if it doesn't care who comes to this area.

I cannot wait to see the new mental survey that comes out. It really should be a part of the overseas screening process. A sailor should be denied an overseas tour of duty if he/she has bad marks on any evaluation. Only the selected few who wish to serve in this region should receive orders. I volunteered to serve in this region and don't even have a speeding ticket in Japan. I love my community and neighborhood, and try to help out the best way I can in my neighborhood.
