Regarding the Olympic torch relay, Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura recently said "We want to prevent disruptions with thorough security." This means the Japanese government will now be complicitous with the Chinese communists in obfuscating protests to the relay.
Commenting on Zenkoji's decision to not host the start of the relay, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said it is regrettable because the torch relay "should have been something for everyone to enjoy." The decision is not regrettable, it is understandable, appropriate, and laudable. What is regrettable is that the change of routing now required will be planned, as it was in San Francisco, in an attempt keep the world from seeing the mounting protests.
