According to the April 2 article "Skip mouth-to-mouth: CPR ruled just as good with hands only," the American Heart Association has announced that simple uninterrupted chest presses at the rate of 100 times a minute could save a life in a case of a sudden cardiac arrest in adults. Evidently, in contrast to the well-known mouth-to-mouth resuscitation technique, hands-only CPR is not only just as effective but also easier as it requires less work and contact.
I believe that it is quite natural for a bystander to feel skittish and reluctant to step out and help in such a situation. If mouth-to-mouth contact could be the price for a life, it actually is not a great price to pay; however, it is still a factor that becomes a barrier for many bystanders. Therefore, I think that the fact the chest-presses are sufficient will most definitely enable bystanders to be more willing to take action
As a student currently studying CPR, I found the information in this article quite influential. This article, in my opinion, contains information that could enable readers to become life savers instead of useless bystanders, and could possibly bring down the death rate due to cardiac arrest if publicized more.
