I would like to compliment Boyd Harnell on his report, and to applaud The Japan Times for publicizing this cruel dolphin cull when the majority of English-language newspaper publishers in Japan will not. That demonstrates democracy at work!

I was particularly horrified at the comments attributed to Hideki Moronuki, deputy director of the Far Seas Fisheries Division of the central government's Fisheries Agency, who stated: "I was very happier to know that I have eaten so much fish which make me much healthier than meat-eating peoples."

Clearly the mercury poisoning is already having a medical impact on this man's intelligence. I wonder whether he or his family will sue the government for compensation after eating contaminated seafood? I'll take my chances and eat seafood that doesn't come from waters off of Japan, thank you very much.
