I couldn't help but laugh as I read the March 16 article on "Metabolic Syndrome" by Tomoko Otake. "Metabo" has been getting a lot of undue attention in Japan these days without people really understanding what it is. Maybe it's just me, but at one time we had a different name for people who carried a bit too much around the waist. We called them fat.
Could it be that it's just easier to be the victim of a "syndrome" than it is to get off one's backside and do some exercise?
