In his Nov. 25 letter, Peter Stevenson wonders why the same non-Japanese males who complain about the new Japanese policy of photographing and fingerprinting arriving foreigners at airports do not seem particularly upset about women-only train carriages.
The reason is that the comparison is irrelevant. Sex separation has been around for ages. That's why we have baths, toilets, gyms, sports, changing rooms and things that may involve physical contact segregated by gender. This is not discrimination, it is common sense.
