Regarding Hisahiko Okazaki's Oct. 12 article, "Fukuda could resolve Yasukuni issue by visiting": Okazaki sounds like someone who clearly has no understanding of what the Yasukuni issue actually is. Many of the men commemorated at Yasukuni Shrine were undoubtedly responsible for murder, torture and enslavement in the Asian nations that the Imperial Japanese Army rampaged across, while 14 of them bear the ultimate responsibility for ordering the crimes and dragging Japan into a war that shattered the country. Perhaps Okazaki is indeed fully aware of this and is so devoted to the same ultranationalist, revisionist nonsense advocated by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that he would prefer to ignore it.
