Regarding the Sept. 28 article "Woman rejected by seven hospitals (in Mie Prefecture) after giving birth": The fact that this happened to a non-Japanese woman is not only disgusting but also against everything that hospitals and the medical profession stand for. Where do these establishments get off, refusing the woman treatment when nearly all doctors in Japan know at least a tiny bit of English?!

This is outrageous behavior that warrants heavy fines at the very least. Then again this all ties into Japan's not having any laws to ban racial discrimination. Hopefully with newer political leadership, such legislation will come to pass.

(Editor's note: After a two-hour search, the woman, in her 20s, was admitted to a hospital with an intensive care unit. Both the woman and her baby were reported in good condition.)
