Ted Rall's Sept. 24 article, "Ugly truth of antiwar lefties," makes some important points about the hypocrisy of the antiwar movement. What he fails to point out, however, is how rightwing, prowar interests have so strongly defined the debate that the left is now forced to sculpt their argument to be pro-military and pro-America. This is the real disappointment.

This American wants desperately to love his country and respect "the troops," but when it and they engage in criminal acts, they both deserve my strongest criticism and, yes, my disrespect. The antiwar movement needs to show its love for the country by criticizing its problems without fear or restraint.
