The Sept. 13 Opinion page headline "Here's to the rise of the alpha geezer" caught my eye because I now occupy that age bracket. I don't mind the term "senior" because it allows me to see movies for ¥1,000 yen instead of ¥1,800. Geezers in rocking chairs are as out of date as rotary phones.

Worrywarts needn't fret over the elderly generation "sucking up all our nation's fiscal resources." In my case, I teach the young from kindergarten to university. My fingers are crossed that I'm not mandatorily retired. Vitality and the determination to continue to be part of the hustle-bustle world do not stop abruptly at a certain birthday. Forcing people to leave their jobs due to age is a lose-lose policy.
