Professor Christopher Lingle's Aug. 27 article, "Intolerance mars climate change debate," succinctly describes the present sad state of affairs. I am a retired scientist from Environment Canada and have been writing about many uncertainties in the science of global warming and climate change. About 10 years ago, I urged the scientific community in Canada to hold an open debate on various issues related to present climate change.
Unfortunately, the scientific communities in Canada and elsewhere have shown a strange reluctance to hold such an open debate. I believe it is time to hold an international conference on climate change with open discussion by scientists on both sides of the debate.
