With the latest shenanigans in the sumo world, isn't it about time to consider free agency for sumo wrestlers, or the creation of an independent sumo league without the supervision of the almighty Japan Sumo Association and outdated stable masters? I recently read that there had been very little interest in the recruitment of new wrestlers. Now may be the perfect time for wrestlers to rise up and demand independence.

At the end of the day, these athletes are the product -- not the sumo association or the stable masters. We need someone with enough guts to take on these bullies and, with enough connections and an entrepreneurial spirit, create a new promising enterprise. Don't get me wrong, this new enterprise would not prostitute the traditional sport of sumo; it would allow for a more relaxed, fair and transparent way of presenting sumo.
