Regarding the June 20 article "Fugitive Fujimori is asked to run for Diet": It is completely unbelievable to me that a man like Alberto Fujimori is given the chance to participate in Japanese politics after all the stealing and twisted politics he is alleged to have taken part in as the president of Peru in the 1990s. The presidency is a very honorable position that shouldn't be tarnished with corruption and manipulation.

The April 1997 action in which Peruvian soldiers stormed the Japanese Embassy taken over by leftist guerrillas and rescued 71 hostages was a team effort. Fujimori was the commander in chief, but credit for the effort belongs to all who participated. The integrity of public service suffers when someone so tarnished is involved in politics. Fujimori should just pay his dues in Peru. It is sad to see a Japanese political party (People's New Party) supporting Fujimori.
