ISLAMABAD -- The upcoming meeting between Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh marks another important phase in the nine-month-old peace process between South Asia's two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Perhaps realizing that a retreat would adversely affect their international image, the two leaders have publicly stated their intention to continue the peace process.
Few men could be more dissimilar than these two leaders. Musharraf is a military man who has seen action against Indian forces. Singh is the product of a democratic tradition that does not hold military rulers in high regard. Yet, peace has a chance despite the long history of animosity the two nations share.
