ISLAMABAD -- Chants of "jihad" (holy war) have repeatedly resonated on the streets of Pakistan in the weeks following Washington's decision to launch military attacks on Afghanistan.
Although demonstrations against the United States continue periodically in parts of Pakistan, the frontline state in the U.S. war against Afghanistan, the long-term future of the jihad legacy remains in question.
As yet, there are few indications of what will happen to the various militant movements whose driving force is based on the jihad concept. Palestine, Kashmir and Afghanistan are only the more prominent flash points where Muslim separatist groups are committed to an armed campaign.
