ISLAMABAD -- In most parts of the world, a president's offer to grab a gun and go after the killers of a prominent businessman would raise eyebrows, to say the least. But in Pakistan, awash with illegal weapons, the bold words of President Pervez Musharraf did not surprise many people.

The killers of Shaukat Mirza, the managing director of the largest state-owned oil marketing company, remain at large.

Although there's no consensus on the motive behind his killing last month, it is a powerful reminder of the role played by illegal weapons in Pakistan in the carrying out of organized assassinations.
