Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's "structural reforms with no sacred cows" received a boost from the G7 economic summit in Genoa, Italy.
"We welcome the recently announced reform initiative," said a joint statement. "Vigorous implementation of financial and corporate sector reforms is needed to lay the foundation for stronger economic growth over the medium term."
Koizumi told his summit colleagues he will steadily carry out his reform plans following the July 29 Upper House election. The G7 support for his planned reforms means he is now internationally committed to deliver on his promises.
