Summer is back, with its alternating days of broiling sun and warm, sticky rain. Time to unpack the sweaters and scarves again.
The truth is that many people end up feeling colder in summer than they do in winter, thanks to the ubiquity of that mixed blessing of modernization: air conditioning. Public places are heated to the point of discomfort in the cold months; then, after the brief respite of spring, the urge to correct nature is reversed in June. On buses and trains, in offices, department stores and cinemas, the refrigerating devices are cranked up even before the hot, humid rainy season begins, chilling commuters and customers to the bone.
Or, depending on your point of view, soothing them with welcome breezes.
