Hyogo police have revealed that a 45-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in a 2006 stabbing incident that left a 9-year-old-girl seriously injured had no prior connection to the victim.
The suspect, Kunihiko Katsuta — who was already imprisoned for separate stabbing incidents that occurred in 2004 and 2015 — was formally sent to prosecutors Friday. While he has confessed to stabbing the girl with a knife, he has denied any intent to kill her, police said. Police are currently investigating his motives and other details surrounding the case.
Katsuta was arrested for allegedly attempting to kill the fourth grade girl by stabbing her multiple times in the chest with a knife on a street in the city of Tatsuno, Hyogo Prefecture, at around 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 28, 2006.
