The Immigration Services Agency on Friday revealed the details of when foreign technical interns can switch to a different training provider due to “unavoidable situations,” such as being the victim of sexual or power harassment or physical violence.
Applicants can select from a wide range of specific "unavoidable" situations set out in a list attached to the application form.
At a news briefing Friday, Justice Minister Hideki Makihara said the new measures are aimed at better protecting the rights of technical interns under the current system and ensuring the program is implemented appropriately.
