Public support for Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s Cabinet dropped to around 30% after his Liberal Democratic Party and its ruling coalition partner, Komeito, lost their Lower House majority on Oct. 27, polls show.
A nationwide Yomiuri Shimbun survey conducted on Monday and Tuesday, after the election, showed that approval ratings for the Ishiba administration had declined to 34%, down from 51% in a previous poll conducted on Oct. 1 and 2, shortly after he was sworn in. His disapproval rating rose sharply to 51%, up from 32% before the vote.
A separate poll conducted by Kyodo News over the same period found similar results, with Ishiba's approval rating standing at a mere 32.1%, down from the previous 50.7%.
