The U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women met in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday to review Japan's policies on women.
Participants discussed Japan's approach to a proposal for introducing a selective dual surname system for married couples and called for a review of the Imperial Household Law to ensure gender equality.
This marked the committee's first review of Japan in eight years.
