A memorial event was held Tuesday for more than 70 victims of heavy rain-caused landslides that struck the city of Hiroshima 10 years ago.
Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui and local residents offered flowers to the victims at the ceremony hosted by a disaster prevention group in the Yagi district of the city's Asaminami Ward, which was particularly hit hard by the disaster.
"I hope to make residents thoroughly aware that they are living in a dangerous area, and work to prevent (the disaster) from being forgotten," said Koji Ishibashi, 72, head of the local group.
