The government is ramping up efforts to raise awareness about the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea, particularly among younger generations.
Officials are increasingly concerned that the issue, which has dragged on for decades, is slipping from the public’s awareness.
"North Korea is trying to make the abduction issue fade from public memory," warned a senior official of the Cabinet Secretariat.
