The city of Hida in Gifu Prefecture is sending occupational therapists with expertise in mental health care and physical rehabilitation to schools to help students overcome learning difficulties and other worries, the first initiative of its kind in the country.
Occupational therapists visit schools regularly and propose learning and communication methods that match each student's personality.
They support children with certain developmental characteristics to foster their ability to live independently.
