Six months after the Noto Peninsula earthquake, the transition of evacuees from shelters to longer-term temporary housing is beginning to gain momentum.
While the transition has provided most with some relief following their prolonged displacement, the uncertainty over the reconstruction of their homes looms over them. The next transition — from temporary housing to permanent ones — has emerged as a key issue in the disaster recovery process.
After the quake, 54 households — comprising 114 residents of Fukami district, in the city of Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture — were evacuated to Awazu Onsen hot springs in the city of Komatsu about 130 kilometers away in the same prefecture.
