Two political parties that supported a bill sponsored by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party to amend the political funds control law are wary of the LDP's perceived attempt to water down efforts to enhance transparency over money in politics under the legislation.
The LDP's junior coalition partner, Komeito, and opposition Nippon Ishin no Kai voted in favor of the bill, which was compiled in light of the LDP's political funds scandal, when the House of Representatives approved it last week.
The Lower House's approval made it likely that the bill would be enacted during the ongoing parliamentary session set to end on June 23. The House of Councilors began substantive deliberations on the legislation on Monday.
