Now that the political funds control bill has been passed, the question on many people's minds is whether Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will order a reshuffle of his Cabinet and the Liberal Democratic Party executive committee later this summer after parliament wraps up on June 23.
Such a move would be aimed at raising his public standing and winning reelection as party president in September — even if it could mean a break with two veteran party heavyweights he's recently clashed with.
To get the bill passed before the end of the current session of parliament, Kishida chose to concede to demands by coalition partner Komeito and opposition party Nippon Ishin no Kai, which shares some of the LDP's goals.
