Police arrested a 68-year-old man Friday on suspicion of shooting a taxi driver in the city of Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, two days prior.

Yoshiichi Segawa, who lives in the city, was apprehended at Omiya Station in the neighboring city of Saitama after police identified him through security camera footage as the man who had fled the scene following the incident, and issued an arrest warrant.

The shooting took place at around 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday on a street in Kawaguchi.

According to police, Segawa entered a cab near Akabane Station in Tokyo’s Kita Ward, and upon exiting the taxi, threatened the driver for money before firing what seemed to be a pistol from the back seat.

The 72-year-old cab driver suffered serious organ damage and is expected to need at least four weeks to recover. Investigative sources said police have found a shell casing inside the vehicle.
