The Defense Ministry's Joint Staff is scheduled to conduct the Joint Exercise for Rescue (JXR) simulation drill involving the Self-Defense Forces Monday through Friday, preparing for a potentially massive earthquake occurring along the Japan and Chishima trenches in the Pacific Ocean.
This will be the first JXR based on the scenario of an earthquake happening on the ocean trenches off Hokkaido and the Tohoku region.
Through the drill, the Joint Staff aims to identify issues, such as those related to the smooth operation of SDF units and optimizing measures during cold weather.
