North Korea announced that it had failed to put a spy satellite into orbit on its second try in less than three months early Thursday, an assessment shared by Tokyo, Seoul and Washington, though authorities in Pyongyang vowed to try again.
The North’s official Korean Central News Agency reported that the nation would make another attempt in October.
It said the Chollima-1 launch vehicle, which also failed in its initial attempt in May, had experienced a problem during its third stage, after problem-free flights of the first and second stages. In May, the vehicle crashed into the sea shortly after launch.
