Despite growing calls for a change in course, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida confirmed Friday the government’s intention to move ahead with plans to scrap health insurance cards and integrate them with My Number ID cards by the fall of 2024.
During an evening news conference, Kishida reiterated his vow to carry out a thorough investigation into the source of recent personal data errors and address concerns over the government’s handling of the matter.
Kishida began the news conference with an apology for the anxiety caused by recent errors and announced three steps aimed at restoring public trust.
