The Tokyo Olympics bribery scandal, centered on a key former Dentsu executive and Tokyo Organising Committee member, continues to expand with no end in sight.
Haruyuki Takahashi, 78, is at the center of the growing scandal due to his unique role on the organizing committee, which he joined in 2014, with his influential status stemming from decades of involvement with international sporting events and connections to senior Japanese politicians, Olympics officials and others.
But prosecutors allege that he profited from that influence in criminal ways. Takahashi currently stands accused of having accepted a total of ¥196 million in bribes — allegations he steadfastly denies.
