Toyota is set to step up promotion of car racing in other Asian countries.
It hopes to whip up the motorsports culture in Asia by conveying the attractiveness of 24-hour sports car races from the Fuji International Speedway motor racing track in Oyama, Shizuoka Prefecture.
Japanese cars already hold a high market share in Asia, so promoting car racing, which is used as a form of research and development for carmakers to make adjustments to their vehicles, may be aimed at spreading an interest in the higher-performance models.
