The University of Miyazaki said Wednesday its joint research has shown that ultraviolet technology developed by a Japanese firm is effective in weakening the novel coronavirus.
The Deep UV-LED, developed by Nikkiso Co., has also proven effective against allergens, and the Tokyo-based firm has used it in its Aeropure air purifier.
Amid reports on the experiment, shares of Nikkiso surged nearly 14 percent in Tokyo on Wednesday.
