In the wake of one of the world's biggest cyberheists — the theft of digital money worth ¥58 billion ($532.84 million) from Coincheck — Line Corp. has said it plans to launch its own exchange.
As the government's financial regulator launches investigations into such exchanges in the country, Line said in a statement Wednesday that it has applied to the body to operate an exchange and that the application is under review.
The Financial Services Agency, which oversees registrations of new exchanges, said on Monday it would investigate all cryptocurrency exchanges in the nation for security gaps after the hack at the Coincheck exchange.
