A strong gust of wind Sunday blew away dozens of metal panels and scaffolding that had been erected around a nine-story building scheduled for demolition near a large intersection in Tama, western Tokyo.

No one was injured.

All of the panels and scaffolding parts tumbled to the ground.

The building, which was being demolished, is near Seisekisakuragaoka Station on the Keio Line.

"I saw all those panels on the ground after hearing a big 'bang!' It's good it didn't cause a terrible accident," said a man in his 50s who works in the neighborhood.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Honshu in Niigata the same day, a low-pressure area created strong winds that blew the roofs off of about 20 houses and other structures in the city.

Three people were injured and rushed to hospitals after the incidents.
