Japan's industrial output fell a seasonally adjusted 2.1 percent in May from the previous month, revised upward slightly from a preliminary 2.2 percent decrease, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Monday.

The index of output at factories and mines stood at 97.2 against the base of 100 for 2010, compared with 97.1 in a preliminary report issued on June 29.

The revision is mainly due to the robust sales of coffee, tea and alcohol beverages such as beer, a ministry official said.

The index of industrial shipments fell 1.9 percent and that of inventories decreased 0.8 percent, both unchanged from the preliminary data.
