China's air force needs better central control to avoid miscalculations as territorial tensions rise with Japan over the East China Sea, according to the Australian Air Force chief.
While the Chinese air force's capability with its equipment is increasing, its regionally-based system does not have sophisticated C2, or command and control, air force chief Air Marshal Geoff Brown said in an interview at an air show on the Malaysian island of Langkawi on Wednesday.
"That's probably where you've got the danger of miscalculation," said Brown. "I'm not sure if I was commander of the Chinese air force that I'd be happy with the way the C2 was, you'd want a more centralized C2," he said.
