A Japanese woman traveling in Imphal, the capital of the Indian state of Manipur, developed symptoms suggestive of Ebola infection, an Indian newspaper has reported.
The daily Hindu said the woman, identified as Yuko Kawakubo, 27, had already visited five countries before she checked in at an Imphal hotel, planning to visit places in the state. She entered Manipur by road, it said, adding the tourist's blood samples were being sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune in the state of Maharashtra.
She was admitted to J.N. Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, where she was isolated. If she is found to be Ebola positive, she may be transferred to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in the same city, according to the Hindu article.
Japanese media reports said the Japanese Embassy in India was looking into the situation.
