The American husband of a Japanese woman found dead in southern California in 2007 was taken into custody in Honolulu on Thursday, Hawaii state police said.

The man, 46, was married to Fumiko Ogawa, a native of Shimane Prefecture who was 41 when she went missing. Her body was found on the outskirts of San Diego in January 2007 and DNA analysis confirmed it as Ogawa in 2011.

San Diego police have been investigating the case as a possible homicide and said the man was likely involved or may hold information about what happened to Ogawa.
