The Meteorological Agency on Wednesday issued tsunami advisories to Japan's Pacific coastal area from Hokkaido to Kyushu and Okinawa Prefecture following a magnitude 8.0 earthquake that shook the Solomon Islands earlier in the day.
The agency said that a wave of 10 centimeters hit the Ogasawara island of Chichijima just before 6 p.m. The maximum height of the tsunami along the Pacific coast is likely to be about 50 centimeters, the agency said.
