American pop star Lady Gaga on Monday put up for auction a teacup she used at a press conference last June in Tokyo, to raise funds to help young Japanese artists after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March last year, the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo said.
The ceramic teacup, from which she sipped during the press conference, will be posted on Yahoo! Japan Auctions website until 11 p.m., May 6, with all proceeds going to a program to support young Japanese artists to study abroad, according to the embassy.
Last June, Lady Gaga promised to auction the teacup with the phrase "We pray for Japan" written in Japanese across the front during the press conference for a charity concert aimed at supporting rebuilding efforts in areas ravaged by the deadly natural disasters.
