NTT DoCoMo Inc. and The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd. on Wednesday unveiled smartphones featuring Disney brand characters and services that target women and families with small children.

While providing cutting-edge smartphones, "we think cute and fun products are also key to expanding smartphone users," Kiyohito Nagata, a DoCoMo executive in charge of marketing, said at a news conference to introduce the Disney Mobile on DoCoMo' smartphones. The devices are due to hit store shelves later this month.

DoCoMo's Disney smartphones will have many exclusive Disney-related features.

Users will be able to access the Disney app market and download special apps and games for the smartphones, including Disney cinema, which feature Disney movies for free.

Users also have more than 25 original wallpaper selections to chose from, including a scene from the famed electric light parade.

Users are also expected to be able to access certain benefits at Disney theme parks, although specifics have not yet been mentioned.

While Disney has already been providing its brand phones for use by Softbank Corp.'s network, some applications are exclusive to DoCoMo, the nation's largest carrier said. DoCoMo's Disney smartphones will be produced by Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications Ltd. and Panasonic Corp. Both are powered by Google's Android operating system.
