Ai Kago, a former member of the all-girl J-pop idol group "Morning Musume," was taken to hospital by ambulance on Sunday after possibly attempting suicide at her home in Tokyo's Minato Ward, police said.
Kago was taken to a hospital after an official of an idol production agency that represents Kago found her collapsed at her condominium at around Sunday noon and called for an ambulance, the police said.
The 23-year-old TV personality had minor cuts to her wrist which were not life-threatening, according to the police. Kago also exhibited symptoms of a possible drug overdose such as impaired consciousness, the police said, adding they believe she had attempted to kill herself.
Kago's boyfriend Haruhiko Ando, 44, a company employee, was arrested on Tuesday for alleged attempted extortion and Kago had been questioned by police as an unsworn witness in connection with that matter.
