Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. has won its third customer for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, with ANI Group Holdings Ltd. ordering five planes.
The additional planes raise the order backlog for MRJs to 70, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. unit said Thursday. It didn't give financial terms for the deal with Hong Kong-based ANI Group, which leases planes to five Indonesian carriers.
Mitsubishi began building its first MRJ at a plant in Nagoya earlier this year as it challenges Bombardier Inc. and Embraer SA in the regional-jet market. The company expects to sell about 1,000 MRJs over the next two decades, giving it a share of about one-third of the market.
All Nippon Airways Co. has ordered 15 90-seat MRJs, with options for 10 more. Trans States Airlines has ordered 50 planes, including both 90- and 70-seat versions. The Missouri-based carrier also has 50 options.
